1875 Wheelset

This wheelset dates from 1875 and was built by the predecessor of the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company, namely the Gloucester Wagon Company and is stamped accordingly around the axle. The wheelset was acquired from our friends at the Clay Wagon Project and Bodmin and Wenford Railway

This wheelset is typical of those fitted throughout the late 19th and early 20th century to many goods wagons and early passenger coaching stock, examples of these could still be found fitted to vehicles as late as the 1930's and one such example back in 1930 would have been the Museum's very own LMS Goods Van 187085 which sadly now has a later 3 hole replacement that was fitted sometime later.
